PS....you are quite right, they don't. But it does appear that Seagate has managed to cut their component manufacturing costs down to levels that keep them cost competitive anyway. How much is real and how much just appearance is hard for me to tell, but I worry about the uncertainty in that particular matter.

Incidently, I give HDD particular credit for optimizing product towards the low end market with the 4k rpm drive. The folks that once brought us BigFoot haven't lost their imagination.
