OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA, 1997 JUL 22 (NB) -- By Grant Buckler. Corel Corp. [TSE:COS][NASDAQ:COSFF] will sell software it developed to manage
its own software localization process to other software developers. The
package is called Corel Catalyst.
Software localization is the process of adapting programs to different languages and other national requirements. Like most large software firms, Corel localizes its personal computer software for many countries.
The company developed Catalyst to streamline that process, company spokeswoman Carrie Bendsza told Newsbytes, and now will sell it to others.
The software's features include a pseudo-translation expert, a validation tool, a "leverage expert" with translation memory capabilities that helps with jobs like resizing dialog boxes as they are translated, a spelling checker, a glossary manager, and a find- and-replace capability. It has various editors and can display file components with the attributes Priority, Locked, Translated, For Review, Signed Off, and Memo. Project managers can use the program
to produce reports and monitor project status, company officials said. According to Corel, all the capabilities are part of one interactive environment that supports translators, engineers, and project managers.
Bendsza said the major market for Catalyst is likely to be other software developers like Corel, "who hope to localize their products more quickly." The software comes in five versions, including a standard edition, three different advanced versions, and a software development kit, she said. Prices range from C$299 to C$2,499. Corel, which sells the Corel Draw graphics software and the WordPerfect Office suite of desktop applications, along with other software products, is at corel.com on the World Wide
Web.

Happy Investing!
