I think there is a real danger of excessive compromise. This is why we have extremists in the first place. They are tired of all this wishy-washyiness. (Should that be wishiness-washiness?) You could say the all the way to the left or the all the way to the right is extremist, but who is to say what left of right is? The way the left and right tell it, anything the other thinks of is hell-in-a-wicker-handbasket foolish or depravedly immoral. They are each the good conscience of the other. Most what we have right now in all the political spectrum is centrist-in-action parties that promise the terrors of the extremes to satisfy the most reactionary voter and then deliver boring crap as some horse trade to avoid the opposition death squads. We end up with the worst politics of both left and right.
