The Patriot Act was concieved to expand executive power and curb civil liberties in preparation for the turmoil that lies ahead. The mentality of the people that deny this is the same type of mentality that led most Americans to steadfastly deny that their leaders would fabricate intelligence to take them to war against a harmless country, even when an 18 year old kid with an internet connection was able to figure this out with relative ease.
