Wow! I remember a few years ago there was a guy on a forum I read who could take modern day 3.5" metal hard drive platters and cut them into the shape of a rose, with a long, curling stem that could stand up by itself.

They looked really cool, and he was asking people to send in old drive platters if they had them. He said there were two kinds, either metal or glass (I think it was glass), and only the metal ones could be used, the glass ones just shatter. He also said there was no way to tell the difference he was aware of, he simply had to try cutting them to see if they shattered on him.
