I eat a can of skinless and boneless sardines every day in a spinach/kale salad with broccoli and carrots and a little pear vinegarate dressing. Sardines is one of the healthiest, if not healthiest food to eat.

I recently went for lots of blood tests and I am proud to say that my A1C came in at 5.6. My blood sugar ( glucose) was a bit high at 107. I have been on the diabetic diet for the past 2.5 years year since I tested positive for diabetes in May 2017. I refused medication and went on a strict diet. I cut out red meat, all chocolate, cakes and junk food with the exception of cheese popcorn. I eat lots of fish, especially salmon and roasted shredded chicken in my salads. I cut my fruit intake by 1/2. I love fruit so that was hard. I was drinking 2 cups of Merlot wine per week. I decided to reduce my wine intake to one cup per week and decrease my fruit intake some more. Before I had diabetes, I was eating one banana and 6 ounces of berries in my cereal. I reduced that to 3 ounces and a half a banana for breakfast. Now I will only eat 2 ounces of berries for breakfast. I still eat an apple and kiwi per day, but have cut out the Mandarin. I gave up all pasta, rice and skin on my chicken. We don't go out to eat anymore. My cholesterol was a bit high. Total cholesterol was 208. But what can I do. I eat a can of smoked oysters or smoked clams every day. I put it in a strainer to wash off with hot water most of the salt. In regard to food, I find I am robbing Peter to pay Paul.
I had a very good endocrinologist in NYC who sat down with me to change my diet in detail.
