SBUX unionizing in Vancouver - employees at 3 stores voted Friday to join Canadian Auto Workers union (no joking!!). This isn't any mass movement to unions but I can't imagine that any news on the wire mentioning SBUX and unions in one sentence would be good for stock price next week... [the news clips on T.V. here just said that there was concerns from employees re. wages - CDN $7+ - and job security although there was no mention of any targets for wages once unionized].

I just found this forum & was a bit amused about all the pyramid scheme talk. The fact is that there is still a huge market for SBUX to exploit in N.A. and Asia in the next five (at least) years. New high-margin summer products have been selling very well (witness ongoing increases in same store sales...). While price of the stock is steep, so are many stocks with similar sort of growth prospects.

I'm not long SBUX now but tend to buy longer term calls on the dips in price (& try to sell near-term on price jumps). SBUX gets some really nice technical patterns - seems because market psychology so evident with the company (i.e., over-reaction to good news, extreme pessimism by those thinking SBUX is just a fad). Maybe this week will be one to watch if this unionization business gets any publicity in the States??
That's it for me for the moment - off for my "burnt" java at the local SBUX on a lazy, rainy Sunday a.m....
