You could just as easily be describing wealthy people who grow up in racially segregated communities.

If they move out of their limited surroundings, they feel unhappy and equate happiness with the surroundings they were raised in.

Their so-called "culture" is the strong peer pressure they suffer to fit in.

When I ask about those who remained in the wealthy community I grew up in, afraid to move elsewhere to pursue opportunities, the vast majority are alcoholics.

People who have to stick with their own type to feel safe have underlying emotional problems.

It's the reason why fearful people like Trump supporters have to set up "safe spaces" where they're protected from people who might say things that disagree with their beliefs.

The most common reason they're open to populist nonsense from a con-artist in the first place is because they've been unsuccessful because they incapable of adapting to a changing economy and society.
