tasked an AI with examining 1.77 million electrocardiogram (ECG) results from nearly 400,000 people to predict who was at a higher risk of dying within the next year.
Having had a heart attack 18 years ago, I have had multiple ECG tests. My doctors have always said that a single one was basically worthless, they were looking for changes between them. The article doesn't say whether it was 1 per patient or multiple. If they have multiple per patient, it is not hard to believe that AI is better at pattern recognition than most doctors. If they are detecting risk from a single test, that would be a major breakthrough.
