Dan -- My post (on the sin that dares not speak its name)was meant as a response to the post that YOU were responding to, as well as a comment on yours. In any event, I understood the reference to the Symposium, etc. You did seem to imply, however, that homosexuality was not frowned upon before the late 19th century, which is why I brought up the Church's condemnation of sodomy. Perhaps I misunderstood you.

BTW, I don't think there is much interest these days in defending High Culture against the Barbarians. Morality, yes. Culture -- what's that? Allen Bloom, where are you?
