mike, the guerillas are republican guard hard core, I doubt if religion has anything at all to with it, I see them as true believers of Saddam and his return to power........... if they can put enough pressure on US to pull out, that is what they(Rep guard HC) are counting on, I suspect they are financially taken care of, on a need money basis, by the Saddam underground.
I think the answer to the guerilla situation is for the US to use indigenous and or other Arab operatives and mercenaries to get into their ranks and destroy from within as much as possible as well as supplying tactical and logistical info whenever possible.
it will not end tomorrow no matter what.......
it is going to take a long term commitment and a policy of involving other Arab interested parties, ie Jordan, Syria.....maybe even some Palestinian hard ass's.
It will not be done with American GIs in uniform, the Arab culture will not allow it.
It has all been done before and on a grander scale,
T.E. Lawrence showed the way with the French and British guiding and supplying............
not much has changed in Arab cultural thinking since then, the same dynamics apply, although the stakes have gone up considerably. |
