>>It is understood stores do vary in many ways within the company.
Oh, no doubt about it. There are three HD stores within 5 minutes of my house. The nearest store does twice the business of the other two stores combined and doubled. It's also the worst managed (sloppiest) store, in my opinion. The other two look more like Lowes (which is across the street from the nearby Home Depot).
The Lowes is pretty, and neat, but if you look behind the surface, the inventory is in a shambles. Lots of shoppers, but few buyers. Most window shop, then go across the street to buy at Home Depot. In the Home Depot, it's a mess on the surface, crap everywhere, but there is plenty of inventory underneath. Amazing how appearances can be deceiving.
I seem to recall there's a single Home Depot store in the Northeast that does over $250 million a year. Can you imagine that? That's probably more than the top 5 Lowes stores, combined. |
