Jules,

Very good questions! The answer is that the overlap should not exceed those established by the CRTC (Canada's version of the FCC). I am also aware of how things work in the U.S. I do a great deal of work in the U.S as well as Canada. Their are similarities between the 2 different governing bodies but there are also major differences. Canada typically follow the U.S lead.

When divestiture first hit the U.S many many years ago, it took Canada about 7 years to follow suit, and we still are not fully their yet. Only recently has the Stentor monopoly been challenged by the recent BC Tel/Telus deal.
What do you think of the recent court ruling backing the FCC decision that the local market (Local Exchange Carriers or LEC's) must open up their market to the tier 1 carriers-AT&T, Sprint, MCI/Worlcom? I like it a lot.

Good investment to own AT&T or Worldcom. They have a very bright future ahead of them. See what AT&T has done over the last 13 month's! They have reinvented themselves.
