Telus buys stake in Epost
04:15 EST Friday, November 03, 2000

Phone company Telus Corp. has signed a memorandum of understanding to invest $30-million in Epost, the world's first electronic post office. In exchange, Telus will receive a 5-per-cent stake. Epost was launched last year as a joint venture between Canada Post Corp. and Cebra Inc., Bank of Montreal's wholly owned e-commerce subsidiary. Telus also said it has won a $100-million five-year contract to provide Internet service provider Technovision Systems Inc. with high-speed Internet ports in Western Canada. Burnaby, B.C.-based Telus, which recently moved into Eastern Canada with a purchase of Clearnet Communications, said Technovision agreed to use its national long-distance and toll-free services.
