Social Security is at least debatable. I can see the need for a system that socializes the risks of retirement (you outlive your savings, invest your savings poorly, never earn enough to save etc...) or at least turns it into some kind of life long retirement insurance program. As it currently exists though, it's pretty much dumber than a rock, much larger than it has to be, and actually excludes some people that should be eligible for payment.
On the other hand, IMO, the UN is practically an evil institution. Not so much on the theoretical usefulness of an institution like it in an idealistic world where issues are resolved on merit and with consistency, people are honest, politics are not a factor, corruption doesn't exist etc.... But on it's own actual merit as an organization it should be dismantled immediately and most of the major players should be put in jail or get the death penalty for crimes against humanity (and I am against the death penalty under almost all circumstances). |
