Have you found a relationship between a stock's primary market maker, its research rating on the stock, and the stock's subsequent performance? For instance:

Alex Brown has a "Strong Buy" on PZZA, as of its 2/1/97 research report.
It was also PZZA's #1 market maker in January 1997, handling 45.46% of volume.

The other market makers are in the single digits. Montgomery was #2 with 8.84%, Troster Singer had 8.40%, Raymond James had 6.16%, and a bunch of others had smaller percentages. (Source: Bloomberg)
