Eric,

I have a major question, Why would IBM buy Novell?
IBM wants to platform independent, right? In light of this, they are still moving towards NT a great deal. In addition, many of the products IBM sells overlaps with Novell. Groupwise and Notes being a prime example. The only key elements Novell has is the money and the installed base. Well, the money is probably not important to IBM, and by reading the lastest news most of the installed base refuses to upgrade to 4.X or are choosing to go to NT. Novell does seems to be heavily involved with Java. So too is IBM; however, NT seems the platform of choice these days. Given Microsoft will release NT 5.0 with their Active Directory, Why would IBM want to buy Novell? Lastly, Novell's new management team is a clear sign to me that Novell wants to make it on its own.

Services are one reason, yet its a low margin growth area.
