From the WSJ: 7-Eleven's Investment In Fresh Food Pdts To Pay Off -CEO NEW YORK -- 7-Eleven Inc. (SVEV) is going where no convenience store chain has gone before: sales of fresh food. "Our main thing from a product point of view is we're introducing 25 to 50 new products each week and focusing heavily on fresh food offerings," 7-Eleven Chairman and Chief Executive Clark Matthews said in a CNBC interview Friday. "That is not typical to the convenience store structure." In the last five years, the company has invested a lot in infrastructure to support daily delivery and distribution of fresh products and build a retail information system to ensure products are in stock. "By developing this infrastructure and being able to get more effective distribution of products, we believe we'll see what we bring to the bottom line grow in the future," Matthews said. "The initial investment costs will be overcome by increased sales." "Our primary interest is selection and quality of products our customers want at fair value."
