I had no problem shorting AOL today using Lombard securities, see lombard.com for more info. Interestingly a co-worker who uses Fidelity Brokerage had the same problem. Maybe I just got lucky.

For all you frustrated AOL's, try Earthlink.net for an ISP. I always get on, and I get timed out after ~ 30 minutes of inactivity (easily overcome). Consider this, you'll be contributing to my Minivan fund to haul my wife and two kids around.

Article from todays WSJ:

One company that did not feel the slowdown was America Online Inc. (AOL). The Dulles, Va., company is experiencing
''astounding growth,'' said Adhishek S. Gami, an analyst at Nesbitt Burns Securities Inc. America Online announced
Thursday that it has more than 8 million members, with 1.2 million joining in the December quarter. At the start of the year,
the on-line service provider - which has vowed to beef up its network to minimize busy signals that have recently plagued the
service - had fewer than 5 million subscribers.

Gami said he expects America Online nonetheless to post a loss of 54 cents a share in its second quarter ended December on
revenue of $402 million. That doesn't include a charge of $75 million for the closing of its GNN service, which America
Online announced in October.

A year ago, the company earned 10 cents a share on revenue of $249 million.

Heck for 50 free hours I bet they do have alot of new subscribers, but aren't companies supposed to turn a profit? Duh!!

Regards, John
