It's interesting Saban waited until the high school players were signed, the portal closed, and the students were enrolled to announce his retirement. I believe he planned it that way so it would leave the program more stable for the next coach. What he didn't fully plan for was the rule that allows for the portal to reopen for 30 days for schools that have a coach retire or take a job at another school.

Now the whole roster including new high school signees becomes a target for other schools. This is a list I've seen floating around of players that have left. I haven't double checked it, but I think it's accurate.

QB Tyler Buchner - committed to Notre Dame (lacrosse)
QB Eli Holstein - committed to Pitt
RB Roydell Williams - enrolled at Florida State
WR Malik Benson - enrolled at Florida State
WR Isaiah Bond - committed to Texas
WR Ja’Corey Brooks- committed to Louisville
WR Shazz Preston - committed to Tulane
TE Miles Kitselman - committed to Tennessee
OL Terrence Ferguson - enrolled at Florida State
OL Seth McLaughlin - committed to Ohio State
DL Anquin Barnes - committed to Colorado
DL Monkell Goodwine - committed to South Carolina
DL Isaiah Hastings - committed to Syracuse
LB Kendrick Blackshire - committed to Texas
LB Shawn Murphy - committed to Florida State
CB Earl Little II - enrolled at Florida State
CB Dezz Ricks - committed to Texas A&M
S Jake Pope - committed to Georgia
S Kristian Story - enrolled at Kentucky
Seven more players remain available:
WR Thaiu Jones-Bell
WR Hayden Neighbors
TE Amari Niblack
TE Jax Porter
LB Ian Jackson
CB Trey Amos
CB Antonio Kite

QB Julian Sayin
CB Caleb Downs Ohio State

Now toss in the ones graduating and the ones going pro that's a big hit to your roster. Many of these were backups and depth guys that might work their way into starting jobs over time. But you also need those types on your team too. They were all in top five recruiting classes. However some will hurt. Downs might have been the best player on the team, and only a freshman. Bond was a top WR. I don't know the team well enough to comment on the others.

Alabama really got hurt by these new rules. Other teams can poach players off their team, but 'bama can't get transfers off other teams because the portal is closed for them. I think it opens in a couple of months for everyone. Seems they would have to take some just to fill out the 85 limit.

I believe the new rules for college football were a reason Saban decided to step down. I've seen stories where over 30 players came to him after the season asking for more NIL money. Not sure of the outcome. I'm sure they take care of the players as well as anyone. At 72 Saban probably thought he had had enough.
