Nortel To Announce New Data Communications Unit, part II

Johnson speculates that Nortel may be preparing
for a round of acquisitions. Indeed, due to
Canadian regulations, in order for the Canadian
company to pursue the long-rumored acquisition
of Cabletron, a new independent business unit
would be a necessity. "All of the rumors you've
heard about Nortel are probably true," Johnson
said. "The question is whether it's part of the
immediate or mid-term strategy."
