I think in 'those days' people lived with a sense of obligation, to God, one's community and neighbourhood, and family. Increasingly, the ethic of today is to serve one's self. If it feels good to me, it is good.

Our children realise this is the ethic of today and they grow increasingly self-centred. At the extreme margins, they shoot other children because it feels good.

If this is independent thinking, I want none of it. I want the olden days when a parent could sent his/her child out to play and the whole neighbourhood took care. That is the way it really was. It really was.

Ciao,
David Todtman
