You are looking at the nomination and election process as a function of a lot of factors. There are always a lot of factors. But if you want to isolate the contribution of a SINGLE factor (in this case Obama being black) you have to look at it seperately.

The answer is a function of how many people voted for him because he is black vs. how many people voted against him because he is black. Period!

Lots of other factors contributed positively or negatively, but they have nothing to do with question at hand. Ferraro was talking specifically about whether being black was a negative or positive for him in theses DEMOCRAT primaries.

I am saying it was a positive because based on demographics it looks like it netted him an extra 7% of the votes and I don't think an equal number of democrats are bigots. It is possible I am wrong about the number of bigots, but not about the fact that some people voted for him specifically because he's black.

And as I said before (and others have echoed) there were also other factors like media treatment etc... that helped him with whites that were related to the fact that he is black.
