‘Save Lambeau’ drive thrives
By Thomas Rozwadowski
As the e-mails keep pouring in, so does Dave Palcsak’s hope that his grass-roots initiative to maintain the Lambeau Field name will soon reach a mass audience.
Hoping to shield the Lambeau moniker from growing threats of corporate sponsorship, the Columbus, Ohio, native said the initial stages of his e-mail campaign are going strong. After his story appeared in the Green Bay Press-Gazette on Friday, Palcsak’s account at savelambeau @hotmail.com was flooded with more than 100 messages during its first day of operation.
Since then, the 44-year-old bill collector hasn’t had time to keep track of the “staggering” support from fellow Packers fans around the country.
“It’s been an overwhelming response,” Palcsak said. “Can we get $100 million in a heartbeat? Probably not. Right now, we’re still in the planning stages … just pursuing ideas and trying to get people in the right place.”
One of those willing to lend a hand is Scott Crevier, a Web site developer and self-employed owner of smcNet LLC in De Pere. Crevier, who operates a Packers historical site at www.southendzone.com, is hopeful he and Palcsak can link those with similar aspirations globally.
“At the very least, you’d like to just get some information out there and look legit,” Crevier said. “I mean, if you don’t have information out there, how are you going to convince a Packers fan in Kentucky to send a check for 10 bucks?
Palcsak, who is hopeful a Web site will be up sometime this week, knows the team and city of Green Bay are looking at selling the stadium's name as a way to get the renovation and expansion costs off the public dole.
“We have attorneys working on determining how this will be structured,” Palcsak said. “We believe we can succeed. Give us a shot.”
