I found these little nuggets of information at Oracle's web site:

Software Magazine: Cover Story January 1997/By Patrick L. Porter

Oracle's new Network Computing Architecture outlines a simple way to build
three-tier network-based apps. But is the NCA merely 'marketecture' in its battle with
Microsoft?
.........................I snatched this paragraph out of the article:

A Web Server Generator in Designer/2000 will also be available at
that time and can be used to create Internet and intranet applications
from definitions held in the Designer/2000 repository. Another tool
on the horizon, Sedona, is being built from the ground-up to support
cartridge design and development. It is slated for commercial release
in the third quarter. Sedona is intended to be used in tight
integration with Oracle8, the long-awaited object-relational
database that had been scheduled for release last year but is now
promised for the second half of 1997.
----------------------------------------------------

Here is a piece taken out of a technical research paper from
Bloor Research Group:

However, in addition to this Oracle will soon be announcing its new
Sedona development environment. As we understand it, this will be the
next generation of Oracle development tools. The only thing we are
certain of at the time of writing is that it will be a repository
based environment that can be used to develop cartridges. Thus it is
aimed at larger development teams and enterprise level development
within Oracle's NCA. No details are yet available as to how Sedona
relates to Designer/2000 and Developer/2000, whether it can be used
in other environments beyond the NCA or whether it will be Java based.
...........
Oracle has promised the following components over the next 9 months:
In Q4 1996 - Oracle Web Server Version 3.0 which will support objects for the web
In Q4 1996 - Oracle version 7.3.3 which will include access to the Web Request
Broker
In Q1 1997 - Oracle Web Server version 3.1 which will an open ORB and an
IIOP/DCOM bridge (this enables the inter-cartridge exchange)
In Q2 1997 - The first release of the Sedona development tools for cartridge
development.
Further releases of components within the NCA have not yet been announced.

------------------------------------From another research paper:

Sedona (Development Tool): Sedona's standards-based component development,
management, and distribution environment will feature Java as an integrated
language for building reusable components across all tiers of Network Computing
Architecture. Sedona will include the ability to create Java applets
and classes as well as Java Beans components. The components created may
be incorporated into applications built using market-leading tools
such as Developer/2000 and Designer/2000. Sedona will also provide the
ability to generate a Java user interface for distributed applications which
integrate components and objects from multiple sources and locations.
