Hitachi Data Systems to Lead Year 2000 Renovation
Project in Fulton County, Georgia

Announces Alliance with Peritus Software for Year 2000 Projects

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 1998--Hitachi Data Systems (HDS)
today announced it has begun work as the primary service and technology provider on a
multi-million-dollar, multi-year project for Year 2000 renovation of information systems
operated by Fulton County, Georgia.

Fulton County, seated in Atlanta, is the seventeenth largest county in the United States, with
annual revenues of more than $1 billion. To cope with the receipt and disbursement of these
funds, the County relies on a complex array of mainframes, midrange systems, and PCs,
spanning many brands and ages of equipment. Its mainframes alone account for more than four
million lines of programming code, all of which must be checked for compliance with the Year
2000 date change.

To assist Fulton County in achieving Year 2000 compliance, HDS will provide project-office
management and consulting services, including business risk management analysis, systems
assessment, and test planning and management to the County. Hitachi is employing its HDS
TEST for Year 2000 solution as the framework for the Fulton County Y2K conversion project.
Co-provider, Peritus Software Services [Nasdaq:PTUS - news], Inc., of Billerica,
Massachusetts, will provide inventory and remediation services on the joint effort.

''HDS has brought us a team of world-class providers, and they've all given us a focused
attention that makes us confident they'll be able to complete the project on time and on budget,''
said John Rowan, Fulton County CIO. ''Our experience with Hitachi and Peritus is first rate.
Together they are offering the expertise and software tools that will help us continue providing
the very best services to our constituents.''

''Fulton County's strong commitment to achieve Year 2000 compliance has led them to forge an
effective partnership with us,'' said Jim Glueck, HDS vice president, Professional Services Line
of Business. ''Working hand-in-hand, we've been able to move forward quickly and efficiently
to roll out an outstanding approach to dealing with one of the most critical business issues facing
our customers today.''

Along with Y2K solutions, HDS Professional Services offers a wide variety of services,
including Network Services, Integrated Solutions, Data Center Services and the recently
announced Parallel Sysplex Services.
