This may have been answered already -- I just came to this site and am going through old messages -- but Kopin's display is a single-crystal AMLCD over glass. They way they do it is to build the display on a wafer and then transfer to glass using a propritary technology. The display is then backlit as a normal display would be. The advantages of their production, obviously, are that single-crystal devices are inherently faster and have a lower defect density than polysilicon or amorphous.

On an investor's note, Kopin is backed mainly by Taiwanese and Thai money. They received a large capital infusion earlier this year from CP Corp (Thailand's version of Samsung) which they are using to carry them into mass production. They also have two sunsidiaries, Kopin Innovision and Forte, which provide built-in markets for their displays. If I invested in FPD companies, which I don't because of conflict of interest, I would invest in Kopin.
