I think the problem with Obama is that even though he's a very bright and charismatic guy (IMO the latter IS important to be an effective leader), his intellectual model for the way the world should work is flawed. Even the level of socialism and involuntary wealth transfer he wants is NOT just. Besides, it won't work. In addition, despite being very bright, he's not qualified yet. Senator Clinton was at least qualified.

The republicans have a different set of problems. McCain is qualified, but he's not very bright or charismatic and will have a difficult time accomplishing anything without giving away the kitchen sink to democrats who will control congress. In addition, despite my desire to reduce taxes, it's obvious we can't afford a tax cut when we are already running huge deficits and the demographics will cause them to grow as a % of GDP for decades.

The solution is obvious.

We need to slow the growth rate of spending below the rate of nominal GDP growth and reallocate the existing resources of government in ways that address long term economics/investment instead of consumption and war!

The top needs to take a hit. But that hit should not come via the increased taxes like the left wants. It should come via reduced government spending that benefits the rich. We have to cut spending for individuals and corporations - including retirement programs like SS and Medicare for the wealthy. We have to retreat and live within our means PERIOD, but do it in a free market, freedom encouraging, long term thinking, and compassionate way!
