Dale,

Recent announcements by EDS and CA that they are getting into the Y2K business dims my view of the small players even further.

Never loose site of the fact that the big players like EDS & CA make the press announcements long before there's actually any business... rather how MSFT pre-announces their products. If people stand in line at Comdex willing to pay for the privelage of participating in the alpha effort, then it's time for MSFT to build the product.

But to ACLY... I agree with Marshall. ACLY is in a wonderful position. DEC is in terrible shape & clearly incapable of stepping up to a Y2K effort. Yet there are still some 500,000 VAXes out there. Just because the sex has gone out of the DEC/VAX market does not say that their customers are any less dependant upon the machines & systems on the machines.

I've been in the Y2K market for 2.5 years on the IBM big iron side of things where most of the noise is & there are literally hundreds of (claimed) vendors. To my knowledge there are only 2 tool vendors in DEC/VAX space... Accler8 and Piercom.

If ACLY plays it cards right, they are in a very good position to: (1) help folks provide lifesupport for Y2K efforts in the immediate term, and (2) continue to help this much longer customer list shift away from VAX after the Y2K stuff dies down.

If I were Mad Monk, I'd call them a potential moonshot.

David
