It seems as if the government is downplaying the seriousness of the situation a bit while they work to find a way forward. It doesn't seem like that to me at all. If anything I think its the opposite, you have politicians and officials talking about depressions, and how urgent massive (even by federal government standards) spending is needed to stop one.
