Sasha, et al., re: PALM VII internet access other than palm.net.

I was in Vancouver, BC, Canada, last week via SanFran & Seattle. My VII worked well in the US along Interstate 5 (except when fishing which occurs at the bottom of hills rather than on top of them) but not in Vancouver at all (although I really didn't expect it to). When I asked PALM customer service whether such service is planned, they responded with the note below which contains some explanation of PALM wireless network as well as links to VII modem/internet access information. Such access is not necessarily web clipping.

Regards,
Harry

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Palm.Net(TM) service. At the moment, there is no international support structure for Palm.Net(TM) wireless service. However, the Mobitex® standards on which the network is designed, are international. BellSouth Wireless Data provides nationwide mobile data service in the United States for Palm.Net. Mobitex® is a worldwide standard for wide area packet switched wireless data communications. Mobitex was first placed into commercial operation in Sweden in the fall of 1986.

Nineteen networks have since been constructed worldwide in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Finland, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Poland, Australia, Singapore, Chile, Austria, Turkey, Venezuela,
Indonesia, Italy and Korea. Additional Mobitex networks are currently being installed, and many others are planned. Other countries expected to establish networks in the near future include Mexico, Brazil, the remainder of Europe, and countries in the Far East. This wide international acceptance makes Mobitex the most capable mobile data
network for meeting the needs of commercial and industrial users.

Regardless, you can always use the non-wireless features of the Palm VII until coverage is available in your area. You may also add a snap-on wireless modem for connecting to services other than Palm.Net(TM) which might be available in your location. For a list of wireless modems which might be appropriate for your area, go to
option.com, or palmorder.modusmedia.com. You will also need a product called ProxiWeb, available from Puma Technologies and found at proxinet.com. This application, with a modem, will allow your handheld to connect to the internet.

If you wish to know more about Mobitex, go to www.bellsouthwd.com, conduct a search for "Mobitex", and click on the link whose title contains information you desire.
