Monty: On another forum, a poster used similar reasoning to arrive at the conclusion that the maximum gain for any short-sale trade was 100 percent. (The example of a stock going from 100 to 0 was cited, hilariously enough.) This was said to be a weakness of shorting. The gains from longs were said to be infinite, however.

Does that help explain the mania?
