The major street name account is called Depository Trust Corp (DTC or CEDE) Most clearing firms are members of DTC. When a person buys a stock through his broker if you have a real seller with certs represented in DTC, the certs are debited the one brokerage firm and credited the buying firm. No consideration is given for a specific accounts within either organization.
