Amtech Systems, Inc. receives $1.8 million in orders for semiconductor production equipment

BusinessWire, Monday, February 24, 1997 at 17:09

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 1997--AMTECH SYSTEMS,
Inc. (NASDAQ:ASYS) reported that it had received an order for
$1.8 million of production equipment to be used in the manufacture of
semiconductors.
The purchaser is a well established European semiconductor
manufacturer.
The purchase order sets forth an undisclosed number of
Tempress(R) horizontal diffusion furnace systems, each to be supplied
with four (4) processing chambers, a gas delivery system and a
standard Tempress(R) load-station. These systems are to be designed
to perform in each chamber a particular process specified by the
customer.
This order was acquired through the Company's wholly-owned
subsidiary, Tempress Systems, Inc. ("Tempress"). The equipment will
be engineered and manufactured in the recently purchased building,
located in Heerde, The Netherlands. Tempress has accepted
responsibility for the initial installation of the diffusion furnaces
through process start-up and acceptance.
J.S. Whang, President & CEO, stated that, "The flow of large
orders over the last fifteen (15) months confirms my belief that
through new product development and product acquisition we can
achieve significant growth from the market we serve. Our strategy
for future growth is to acquire or develop semiconductor fabrication
equipment products that would benefit from our world-wide
distribution channel while expanding beyond our current niche.
"We established a physical presence in Europe during fiscal 1995
and I am gratified by the results. Specifically, during fiscal 1996
sales into the European market increased by 258% over the prior year,
so that sales into that market now comprise 21% of consolidated
revenue compared to 5% only two years ago."
Amtech Systems, Inc. manufactures capital equipment for use in
the production of semiconductors, which it sells through its
world-wide distribution channel.
