DSL Companies Will Meet With Buy-Side Analysts
DSL Investor Conference Set for February 23rd in New York City
February 3, 2000 12:18 PM NEW YORK, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The leading DSL service providers, equipment suppliers and technology firms will meet in a closed session with buy-side analysts on February 23rd at The Plaza Hotel in New York. Presenting DSL firms include Aware, Inc. AWRE ; Copper Mountain Technologies, Inc. CMTN ; DSL.net, Inc. DSLN ; InterSpeed; ISPD ; mPhase Technologies, Inc. XDSL ; Netopia, Inc. NTPA ; NorthPoint Communications, Inc. NTPT ; Rhythms NetConnections, Inc. RHTM ; SBC Communications SBC ; and Westell Technologies, Inc. WSTL . A key objective of the conference will be to, "familiarize institutional investors with the rapidly evolving landscape in the DSL market", said Milton Puryear, Managing Director of NOVA Research, Inc., the conference sponsor. "The massive growth of the broadband wide area network over the last five years has heightened the urgency for "last mile" broadband deployment. The growth rates of ADSL and SDSL, in particular, far exceed those of cable, ISDN and T1 (HDSL) connections. Overall DSL deployments are growing at 300% annually compared to 60% for cable modems."
"Demand is exceeding forecasts by as much as 100%," said Puryear. "Gartner Group's forecasts of DSL customer premise equipment units in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 were 2.2 million, 3.9 million, 6.4 million, and 9.8 million respectively. Dataquest forecast 2.9 million total DSL chip sales in 1999. As of November 1999 actual chip shipments were over 3.8 million."
According to DSL Investment Opportunities, a market research report published by NOVA, "Not yet in anyone's forecast are Korean Telecom's plans to have 1 million lines in service by the end of 2000. The international market promises to be similarly robust." The market study and NOVA's fundamental company reports on DSL market leaders will be provided to conference participants.

When nasdaq goes down, most nasdaq stocks will go down depending on it's correlation with the index. I think RTHM is making all the right moves. They are expanding aggressively. With the new financing from GATX and Cisco Sytems, they now have the financial support they needed to accomplish their planned aggressive expansion in 70 markets in 100+ metro areas by year end 2000. GATX and Cisco Systems have a combined investments totaling 200 million with this new round of financing. If RTHM is good enough for Cisco then it certainly is good enough for me. I'm holding RTHM for long term growth but will take profit when I see fit but not right now. It's way early I think.
I used to trade 10 times a day but I really think investing based on the stock's value and long term prospect is the way to go. I sleep better at night. I traded in and out of RMBS all through the months of Nov 99 - Jan 2000, if I had just held my 1st 1000 shares which I bought back in Nov 99, I would have made over 70k in 3 months on a 69k investment...painful to see Rambus pop like that in the past month.
I'll look into FPMCF...Linux is a hype because Unix has been around for a long time. but money could be made based on hype and momentum. that's lots of letters..hahaha ragingbull.com Author: hazalsl Number: of 151 Subject: re RTHM news Date: 1/21/00 1:21 PM Email this to a Friend Format for Printing Post New ? I'm new to the Fool. Just thought some out there might be interested in local news about RTHM. Denver Post (1/5/2000) story showed company has expanded from 200 employess in 19,000 sq. ft. to 1200 employees in 129,000 sq.ft. (Hopefully that means something) Regarding installation, the local Denver market seems very hot on DSL. We installed it ourselves in 1/2 hr. and the technical assistance by phone was great. Denver has high concentrations of net users, so dial-up access has been VERY slow at times. I bought RTHM at 27 3/4 and it's up today. Other quick notes - investor services very prompt (Got my packet the day after calling and they were very cordial re questions.) Hope this post is helpful.

DSL's and takeovers by: bvuinvestor (26/M/Saint Paul, MN) 1/6/00 5:11 pm Msg: 5020 of 6713 Mutzele,
I don't think its a completely black and white situation when it comes to takeovers. In fact I anticipate more players in the DSL market before any large takeovers occur. Not as many players as what happened with ISP's, but there will be striking similarities. In my opinion the only way RTHM will be taken over is if they continue to trade low in to the third quarter or they file bankruptcy.
To many people are speculating on ALL of these DSL companies. We do not have enough information to draw any solid conclusions as of yet. Like I previously, ALL of them will do well in 2000. The question is who will have the greatest captial appreciation.
On a side note, I like the idea that RTHM sells directly to the consumer. This is distinctively different from COVD. In my opinion it should give them the ability to offer better customer service. Only time will tell. In the service industry its not always necessary to have the 'best' product if the company has Class A customer service. messages.yahoo.com
Actually, Rhythms is xDSL... by: rockin_with_rhythms 1/8/00 3:07 pm Msg: 5126 of 6713 ...meaning they offer both symetrical throughput, say 1x1, as they do with one of the largest ISPs who is a Rhythms reseller - - - or they can give you a rate-adaptive - RADSL - line that (depending on distance from the CO) can run as fast as 7x1 or any speed in between.

Growth by: shawzzzzzz 1/20/00 10:57 am Msg: 5575 of 6713 Hey Guys:
The new commerical is now running on CNBC and other networks at prime times to attract its main clients of white collar workers who demand this type of speed. I personal think that in the next year RTHM will be big!!!(of course so will COVD) But the writing is on the wall, DSL is here to stay. I would also look for higher 4th Quarter earnings since line deployment was higher than expected( This was reported about 3 weeks ago.) Look for higher price targets after earnings hit the street.
Does anybody agree or disagree?????? messages.yahoo.com
RTHM's history??? by: FatherMulcahy 1/21/00 2:41 pm Msg: 5684 of 6713 I got in yesterday @ $30 1/2 @ the open based on my fiance's broker's advice. My question is, what happened soon after RTHM IPO'd that sent it from $111 to $26? Did they miss earnings, I have not been able to find a site with press releases going back that far. Any help is appreciated. messages.yahoo.com
Cable and DSL ... (Article) by: brod_band 1/30/00 2:22 pm Msg: 6085 of 6713 Covers RTHM...nothing special...let me just add the following comments from a market analyst -Salomon Smith Barney: "It is important to note that ADSL technology is required for line sharing. RTHM is unique in that RTHM has ADSL fully-operational throughout its entire network and was early in adopting a platform which utilizes several DSL technologies. COVAD has some ADSL deployed but Northpoint and the voice clecs which do DSL have not rolled out ADSL on a national basis so RTHM is more leveraged to this ruling than any other company we are familiar with. Broadwing (formerly Cincinnati Bell) as the ILEC in its region has ADSL equipment installed in 40 of its central office (CO) collocations out of a total of 56."

You want history? you can't handle the by: matts911 1/21/00 3:05 pm Msg: 5686 of 6713 History!!!!! I'll do my best.
It came out smack in the middle of the dot com ipo craze and rocketed out of the gate on this news and that news. the supposed "hot technology" factor etc... It came down over the next month and eventually settled in the 45-55 range for a couple of weeks and then took off again to the low 70's. Then unexplainable to me, or anyone else for that matter, it went straight down over the course of two months to its all time low. (note) RTHM had a much higher stock price than covad, northpoint, and NASC for the longest time. Then covad took off as RTHM was floundering its way to 26.
Then about 3 months ago RTHM made a dash from 26 to 47 and this message board was full of people saying we will challenge the 111 price and we'll be in the 70's in no time. Bla bla bla.
They announced record earnings and great growth, the stock was up in pre'market, and the ceo went on squak box (cnbc) that morning, and its been a nose dive ever since.
The big debate on this board seems to be the CEO's ability to guide the company. This company isn't consistent enough yet. It runs and runs in both directions.
My personal opinion is that we will test the mid 40's again. I also think we all will get bought or partner up with someone. As soon as one goes (RTHM NPNT COVD NASC) i would load up on the others (options).
The only downsides are the inconsistency of the CEO and the company.
Oh well, sorry to bore all of you. Its just my two cents.
Your best bet is to play the option game. I bought march 30's two days ago for 4 and they are worth over 8 now. It's about time i get some of my money back on this pig.

DSL Internet Connection faster thn cabl by: switch402 (27/M/Petaluma, CA) 1/11/00 12:26 pm Msg: 23901 of 27993 The connection of DSL that the end user gets usually comes out slower than cable - unless you live in BFE where nobody shares your node - highly unlikely. And it's not gonna get better. More and more people end up on cable and then you're screwed. @Home wouldn't give me a number. They say "up to 10Mbps." UP TO!!! It's like when you go to a sale that says "Prices start at 50 cents" That is not what you end up getting! Okay, 10MB stream, but 10 people get it and you're limited to 1MB. Also @Home has the stupid proxy servers on their network that are supposed to speed it up. They slow it down. ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME IS HOW FAST I CAN SURF, AND DSL IS FASTER FOR ME!!!
Once again, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RUN SERVERS ON THE CABLE MODEM NETWORK! I need the fast service to run my service. I can do it on DSL, but not on cable modem! Oh, and I don't run Windows 95/98 either, I run NT which you can't run on @home unless you want workstation, but I need to run Server.
