METAL STORM IN US DEFENCE PUBLICATIONS

Metal Storm and its potential for utilisation in the force
transformation area is featured in similar articles in the current issues of
respected US defence publications Defense News and Marine Corps Times.

In Defense News (Nov 18 issue) “Australian Firm’s Weapon Captures U.S.
Attention”, and the Marine Corps Times (Nov 25 issue) “Weapon of the
Future?”, interviews were conducted with officials from the Pentagon’s
Office of Force Transformation (OFT), Metal Storm President and CEO Mike
O’Dwyer, and Art Schatz, Vice President of Metal Storm Operations. The
OFT is headed by Vice Admiral Arthur Cebrowski (ret).

OFT is looking for new ways to equip the US military for 21st century
Network Centric Warfare. The articles elaborate on Metal Storm systems
which are under development, such as the repeatable access denial
system, area denial weapon system and unmanned combat aerial vehicles.

In Defense News:
In its search for technologies to equip the military for
information-age warfare, the Pentagon’s Office of Force Transformation is looking at
weapons that are digital and modular in nature. Metal Storm Ltd,
Brisbane, Australia, has caught the eye of retired Navy Vice Adm. Arthur
Cebrowski, who heads the Pentagon office.

Quoting one official from OFT: “These systems deliver overwhelming
firepower with amazing precision, but the appeal has to do with the
technology’s unlimited potential in network-centric operations based on two
key aspects – they’re digital and they’re modular.”

Comment:
In the above articles, the writer has attributed Metal Storm technology
capabilities to the Predator unmanned aerial vehicle, however the
figures should be attributed to Metal Storm’s concept unmanned combat aerial
vehicle.
