Pork Barrel Spending
The federal government is giving a whole new meaning to the phrase "pork barrel spending." The Agriculture Department has announced plans to buy an extra $50 million dollars of pork, in addition to their already-scheduled meat purchases. The reason? To keep pork prices -- which are at their lowest level in 27 years, and have fallen by over 50% during the past year -- from falling any further.

What a concept. The government takes your money, then uses it to jack up your food bills.
