EARTHLINK: Your ISP for the Information Horse-and-Buggy Path ?
Dear Garry,
My jaw about hit the floor when i read your remark, "EarthLink is providing outstanding service in all aspects of its business."
Are you completely unaware that Earthlink's antediluvian technology is driving away customers, and scaring away the new customers you say Earthlink needs? Apparently, the "Chief Technologist" has been so caught up in his 7/24 pursuit of SPAM that he's neglected his responsibilities to provide modern equipment.
Earthlink's WEB site actually still says, "Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the 56-Kilobits-per-second (Kbps) modem products that are about to hit the market." In fact, 56K modems "hit the market" six months ago, and there are now millions of 56K modems, connecting to hundreds of ISPs - this is clearly today's expected standard for ISPs, not just a hazy vision of the future. (Six months is half an eternity in Internet time!)
One might have pity for Earthlink, forced to devote all their technological efforts to chasing SPAM, were it not for your boast that Earthlink has significantly reduced its expenditures per customer - rather than keep up with technological progress. This may enrich the bottom line in the short term, but is this any way to run an ISP?
