Elmo,

You should really give credit for that July article from LightReading you like to repost all over God's green earth...

This just in: Soundview gives an $8.50 price to NT for yearend 2002. Maintains a neutral rating, said that NT's guidance has been giving NT new credibility. Also, Soundview is still maintaining LU at a buy rating despite the recent pre-announcement. Check it out: vision.yahoo.com

I can't see a real good year for any telecom equipment supplier for 2002... There is enough equipment on the re-use market to sustain a pipeline of this stuff through June or July of next year. There is too much turbulence in the technology. We went through 11 months of 2001 saying that ATM is on the outs and IP backbones are the way to go. I've been reading article after article for the last month that is now saying the complete opposite. ATM is proving it's worth in capex savings. Vendors like WaveSmith will love this news... In the consumer broadband markets, Cable Modem was burying DSL for most the year while DSL was the same picture of health as Osama Bin Laden in his last video... Now, we hear that Cable Modem subscription rates have leveled off while DSL is starting to soar... Which is it? Who will have the last laugh? AT&T or Comcast? Concerning NT or LU... Same thing. I believe NT was the underdog in the 2nd half of 2001 while many believed LU had bounced and put it's house in order... Seems evident now that NT has executed much better in the short term. With the turbulence in this space though... All we know for sure are that things are going to change.
