The news item from Reuters briefly mentions possible incompatibility with the greases. A New York Times story this morning said a lot more. Apparently they used a grease on the jackscrews which, when oxygen was present, may have caused a breakdown in the metal. The good news is, when they were deciding whether to use this particular grease (they were trying to use fewer types of grease and lubricants, supposedly, in order to simplify things so that there would be less chance of someone mistakenly using the wrong item), they contacted Boeing and asked them if it would be okay to use this grease for this purpose. And Boeing said yes. Beautiful; the liability is on Boeing for misinforming Alaska. If the story is correct.
