The Athlon was great...far superior to the Pentium I had before it but the Duron is unbelievable....it is so smooth and efficient. As you know, I have very little tech background but if the Duron is this impressive to me, the techies must be freaking out."

Just think what my reaction was when I upgraded from a K6-2 400 Mhz to a Duron 600 :)

And you're right.. the Duron is getting top marks all over the place.. if AMD hadnt taken the somewhat controversial step to try to make it as hard as possible to overclock as it has..the CPU would get a 9 or 10 out of 10.. as it stands... it gets a solid 7.5-8 in most places books.

The attempt to stop ppl from overclocking using the multiplier is getting AMD some negative comments.. even from the fan site AMDZone. I think its been well documented that CPU's that had their bridges cut could be "connected" again by using something as simple as a pencil.. It appears from reports on the net that all Duron and possibly T-bird CPUS after Week 36 of production has had the pin connectors to those bridges removed so that the pencil trick wont work.. AMD Zone's opinion on this (and some other sites)is all AMD is accomplishing is making it harder for regular people to overclock legitmately.. while what they have done will not deter re-markers.. (there is a work around posted on the net on how to get around this latest attempt of AMD to stifle OC'ing using the multiplier)
