Nortel (Northern Telecom) To Answer Network Question for LMDS Operators
Plans Demonstration of Nortel REUNION Broadband Wireless Portfolio at Wireless '98
DALLAS, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ - With the FCC's auction of Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) radio licenses set to expand available wireless service offerings, new competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) and other hopeful bidders are already asking for network solutions designed to get them into service as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

Nortel will introduce and demonstrate the Nortel REUNION family of broadband wireless access network solutions at Wireless '98, the 13th annual convention and exhibition of the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), to be held February 23-25 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta (Hall G, Booth No. 6009).

In addition to a live demonstration of the Nortel REUNION product family, Nortel's exhibit at Wireless '98 will feature complete network solutions for GSM, TDMA, CDMA and fixed wireless service operators.
New Nortel offerings scheduled for demonstration at Wireless '98 include:
- the Nortel Integrated MicroNode, a scaleable mobile switching center
which allows GSM wireless operators to cost-effectively serve urban
and rural communities, campus environments and other remote or
sparsely-populated areas.
- an addition to the Nortel CDMA base station family - the FCP 800 -
which offers a smaller footprint and co-location with existing analog
cellular base stations for savings in real estate costs, modular
capacity expansion and an elegant migration to digital service.
- Nortel's TDMA PCS at 1900 MHz, a complete digital network solution for
newly-licensed PCS operators.
- the Nortel Small Wireless Switch, a compact system for economical
deployment of analog and digital wireless services in lower population
density applications.
- a sophisticated software tool for radio performance analysis - the
Nortel RF Optimizer - which keeps CDMA and TDMA digital wireless
networks operating at peak efficiency by examining RF links to
identify problems and make adjustments for optimal performance.
