If you're tuning in to the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea on Feb. 9, you won't want to miss the Team USA parade uniforms designed by Ralph Lauren and made in part by International Textile Group's Burlington and Cone Denim divisions.
The Olympic uniforms include a parka with an integrated heating system and jeans designed by Ralph Lauren, with some textile elements coming from several Triad manufacturing facilities.
Delores Sides, spokesperson for ITG, told Triad Business Journal the Burlington division was hired to make the red, white and blue fabric on the outside of the heated parka, the signature element of the parade outfits. That material was manufactured at the Burlington and Rockingham facilities.
Greensboro-based Cone Denim was responsible for the denim, produced at its White Oak facility, used in the jeans worn by Team USA athletes during the opening ceremony, Sides said.
Sides told TBJ Ralph Lauren also designed baseball caps, and the navy and white material for those caps came from Burlington's Carlisle, S.C., facility, though they won't appear during the ceremonies.
"It is very exciting," Sides said. "International Textile Group is very proud to be a part of clothing Team USA in the opening ceremony."
PyeongChang will be the third Olympics that ITG has supplied fabrics for official Team USA clothing, Sides told TBJ.
Ralph Lauren is one of the Triad's largest employers, operating three facilities in the area and employing about 2,639 people.
