Nobody's been talking much on this thread lately, but it may be about time to. ALK went down from 32 to 21 this morning, about 34%. Other airlines didn't do much worse, including United, American, Continental and others which were either directly involved in the 9/11 tragedy or have announced major cutbacks as a result of the last week or its aftermath. Other than the obvious loss for this month, I don't see much long-term damage to ALK, especially to the Alaska Airlines component. Their routes tend to be longer and people have fewer options (they usually can't efficiently take a bus or train), plus they're farther from any potential terrorist targets. I don't see the additional security measures the feds are proposing as doing much to hurt their bottom line. Any other downsides I'm missing? Is this a good time to buy ALK at these prices?
