Nok, re: the NYSE specialist comment. I've read about this often and seen bizzare spreads and rapid changes in direction on certain stocks from time to time. When a NYSE stock opens late, the NYSE specialist, if they want to, can really figure out how to best manipulate it for their gain. Not saying they do it very often, but they sure can, according to what I've read.
