You're a different personality than I am. So your needs are different to mine - and your needs are also more similar to the majority of people. I understand that.

While I've found instruction helpful from a person who has a deep understanding, I've never found a pep talk from a cheerleader or a somber speech after a disaster beneficial. If I experience a traumatic event, I tend to deal the associated feelings of sadness, grief or anger at a later and less challenging time. It makes me very effective in solving problems.

You'll find that the parents of most unusually successful athletes, like a Tiger Woods, were far more demanding than they were enthusiastically cheering. It's a terrible way to grow up, but talent requires dedication.

When I was growing up, my Grandfather was similar to myself and let me know how much he expected from me. That helped me become successful far more than my parent's empathy or cajoling.
