Harris & Jeffries to demonstrate Soft-ATM & Tornado Integration at ATM
Year 97 in San Jose, CA

DEDHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 1997--

-- Using Wind River Systems' Tornado Interactive Development
Environment and Soft-ATM, can save months in the development of new
ATM products --

Harris & Jeffries, Inc. (H&J) announced today that it will
demonstrate extensive integration of Soft-ATM Software with Wind
River Systems' Tornado Interactive Development Environment. The
demonstration, highlighting enhancements to Soft-ATM created
specifically for use with Tornado, will be shown in the Harris &
Jeffries booth (no. 1330) at the ATM Year 97 Exhibition at the San
Jose Convention Center in San Jose, CA., June 23-26, 1997.
Additionally, Harris & Jeffries said it will give a half-hour
presentation on how these integrated tools can accelerate the
development of ATM products. The presentation begins at 6:00 PM on
the evening of June 25th. Developers of ATM products, or those who
counsel developers of ATM products are encouraged to attend.
The combination Soft-ATM and Tornado creates a powerful
environment that enables developers to rapidly and interactively
build and test ATM systems. A target system is created composed of
Soft-ATM software and Tornado's high-performance Real-time Operating
System (RTOS), VxWorks. Developers utilize the graphical
functionality of Tornado to run H&J's unique Soft-ATM Toolkit. With
this Toolkit, the developer can interactively build and test software
using Soft-ATM Probes and Traces to see what is happening inside a
target system. The booth demo highlights the implementation of a
Soft-ATM /VxWorks target environment managed interactively by the
Tornado development environment running on Windows NT.
Harris & Jeffries said it would also demonstrate new software
files that seamlessly bind Soft-ATM Signalling code to the VxWorks
operating system, further reducing product development time by as
much as two to three months. This time savings means not only faster
development of new networking products, but decreased development
costs and faster conversion to revenue generation for these products.
Tornado provides embedded system developers a cross development
environment comprised of coordinated tools that incur little or no
overhead in target resources. The innovative development environment
consists of three highly integrated components: the Tornado tool
suite, a set of powerful tools and utilities on both the host and the
target; VxWorks, the industry's most powerful and scalable RTOS, which
executes on the embedded target processor, and a full range of
communications options for the target connection to the host, such as
Ethernet, serial line, in circuit emulator (ICE) and ROM emulator.
"Tornado is a very powerful development environment for
manufacturers. The new Soft-ATM development tools and porting files
dramatically improve time-to-market and make ATM integration fast and
hassle-free," said Ethan Harris, president of Harris & Jeffries, Inc.
"With the explosion of the Internet and intranets, interest in ATM
support is growing rapidly. Harris and Jeffries' solid communications
technology has made Soft-ATM very popular in the telecom, datacom and
multimedia markets -- three of our key vertical markets," said David
Larrimore, vice president of marketing for Wind River Systems.
"The combination of H&J's ATM subsystem and the Tornado IDE
provides the developer an extraordinarily powerful way to deploy ATM
functionality -- high-performance solutions are created that are very
robust and extensible. We are very pleased to have this time-saving
integration available for our customers and to list Harris & Jeffries
as a WindNet and Tornado partner," Mr. Larrimore continued.

Comprehensive Family of Soft-ATM Functionality

The Soft-ATM family of ATM products is the broadest in the
industry. Whether product deployment occurs at the desktop, the
enterprise backbone, or the CO switch, the Soft-ATM product line
delivers the functionality, tools, support and performance that
accelerates ATM product development. All Soft-ATM Software Subsystems
are standards compliant and come with H&J's Interoperability Guarantee
that states that Soft-ATM products will interoperate with other
vendors products that comply with the same ATM Forum standards. The
product family includes ATM Signalling, ILMI, PNNI Routing, IP over
ATM, LAN Emulation-Client, LAN Emulation-Server (LES, BUS, LECS),
Frame Relay-to-ATM Interworking (FRF.5), and Frame Relay-to-ATM
Service Interworking (FRF.8) subsystems. The company's products also
include High-Performance Frame Relay software.
