Hi Snowshoe, sorry forgot about your post until rose came along ... no, never knew that guy, or saw the golden spruce, or worked in the Charlottes ... but there have been a few nutcases of note that moved up there, one of them sad like this fellow, a crazyman young lawyer, life of the party at times, moved there to Queen Charlotte City, which sounds grand but is a tiny village, and a year or so later blew his brains out, no one around here got to know him well enough to know why
Worked over the years with lots of guys who had spent time in the Charlottes though, a very close neighbour was born and raised there ... and within five miles of where i'll be in the morning, i fell timber years ago with a guy we called Begonia, also worked with him in other camps at times, he was famous among us for prospecting and had already discovered this deposit on the Yakoun river, don't recall how close it is to the golden spruce - specognaminerals.com
Lots of stories on the coast, and so many distinct characters who made them happen, you run into old cabins all over in the woods, often in surprising places, as if their builders were hiding, which they likely were for whatever reason, some were known to be draft-dodgers from both wars, others may have just liked to live quiet ... Mr Hadwin best do that, if he's still alive and anywhere near the haida |
