ted, re:<Pentium 4 fails to close gap on Athlon, say testers> I even heard this story on TV news tonight. Local San Diego TV news (KUSI), a CNN affiliate, just ran a 2 minute diss of the Pentium 4. Phrases like "new Intel chip disappoints. Intel says it will encode your MP3's 25% faster BUT the new computers are very expensive and are not faster for most users."

Petz,

After all the concern we all have had over the past year....the actual launch is not only anticlimatic but apparently not a major threat to AMD's well being. Further it looks like AMD can easily scale up the Athlon as the P4 ramps up to 2.0 Ghz.

Its clear (to me at least) that Intel must have been at some huge level of complacency the past few years to be coming out with its current round of products.
