Ref. monitors, the thing to remember is the dot pitch and refreach rate - these two items are what make the difference in price of monitors and, of course, the "sharpness" and flicker-freeness of the screen.

One of the best for the money has always been ACER -

Right now the price of 19" monitors of good quality have dropped to where they are becomming entrylevel.

One can run several video cards - one for each monitor - or one of the mulimonitor cards like MAXTOR's. They have several cards - one of which will take up to 8 monitors, I believe. Check their web site.
